The long weekend drive back

I'm grateful for the feel of an extra week of summer with the early Memorial Day-- it got hot so early this year we might as well have the calendar match the season. As we've done for the past zillion years, we headed 89 miles southeast to spend the long weekend in Avalon for some fun in the sun. It's a challenge for David and me to find time to relax on these family weekends because we have so many memories of our leisure time spent there PRE-KIDS to compare everything to, but it's a challenge we plan to beat on subsequent trips there throughout the summer! Beer consumed may outweigh noses wiped, etc on certain days...

A few years ago Drew named the houses in his life (our 'Red House', my folks' 'White House', the Cohens' Lake House) and the Avalon house had a good run as "The Sand House" until this weekend. It's now been re-christened "The Aquarium Store Beach House." Nature's bounty offered us the following temporary pets this weekend: one sea star, many softshell crabs, two hardshell crabs, one hermit crab, and one turtle. Who knew so many critters would eat hotdogs out of crab traps?

(Here's the turtle not eating his lunch of grapes, but pondering the sippy cup)

Not sure why, but I went from being "Ma" to "Ma-Baa!" in Evan's world this weekend. Quite a plaintive litany for the ride home. If you would like to live vicariously for 29 seconds of our 3.5 hr Ma-Baa!-filled journey (bumper to bumper until this video was taken), here ya go:

I'm so sad that we weren't there with you guys this year! The four boys would have had so much fun. We miss you!

Just not the same without you guys. The 3 girls would have fun too! We'll make a date for future years!

How funny was that. Thank God Drew wasn't losing it also.
