Anyone else need a rest after the long weekend? Our weekend highlights included:
-beer with neighbors
-birthday party at the Franklin Institute
-brunch at "Fork" restaurant
-fixing our air conditioning (it's 95 degrees in Phila now)
-attending the Devon Horse Show- the oldest outdoor horse show in the country (where Drew won 1st prize in a fishing contest and won a HUGE stuffed fish)
-yard work in Elfreth's Alley
-yard work in Rosemont (which luckily led to swimming in Rosemont-- albeit in 61 degree water!)
This weekend is also memorable for another reason- - Drew has solidly entered into the age of WHY. We knew this day would come. Since his birthday 7 weeks ago, Drew has grown 2 inches, he's become a more proficient painter, he's recognizing more letters in the alphabet, he's eating us out of house and home-- all very good milestones. But if I had a nickel for every time he asked me why today, I'd have some heavy pockets:
"Let's finish up lunch, Drew."
"Why?"
"Well, it's time for your nap."
"No nap, Mama."
"Yes, sweetheart, you need a nap."
"No nap. Please."
"Yes, nap, Drew. It's time to rest."
"Why?"
"Well, because you need energy for the rest of your day, that's why."
"But why?"
"Well, we've already gone to music class, the park, the library, and now we've finished lunch. And that used up all of our energy."
"Why?"
"Because it was fun, but it was hard work."
"Let's read books!"
"No more books, it's naptime."
"Why?"
"Because it's naptime."
"Let's play!"
"No more playing, it's naptime."
"WHY?"
(to accurately simulate Drew's day, repeat the passage above a dozen times.)
